White House's AI Policy Is Indefensible – Derek Thompson (derekthompson.org)

Our trade policy is based on the whims of one person.

This same person is notably lacking a credible record on economic matters.

>Whatever you say about this policy, it is the opposite of the high-tariff, free trade-skeptical ethos that one associates with Trump’s economic agenda. It is even, dare I say, almost globalist.

>There’s a big question that I still have around why the administration has defaulted to the “free trade for AI; protectionism for everyone else” principle

I don't understand the confusion. Trump is literally just trying to implement a completely vanilla mercantilist system. His thinking is straight from Mun's "England's Treasure by Foreign Trade".

As AI is a maximalist (and extraordinarily expensive) disproof of language as a coordinating, accurate communication system, Trump's economic policies are a disproof of economic 'science' and revelation it's merely enactive game-theory.

“ Spoken with neither anything beyond lay observation of linguistics nor economics.”

“I think there are a few strands of intuition and confusions that have led people to believe very strongly that language is the medium of thought,” she says. “But when they are pulled apart thread by thread, they don’t really hold up to empirical scrutiny.” E Fedorenko
