India's Most Valuable Export: Workers (nytimes.com)

I'm going to tread close to generalizations here, but this is my experience and so obviously is limited:

I hadn't had much direct experience working with Indian emigrants to the US until a valley company acquired my employer who was located in the midwest. My experience before that was working with some random outsourcing companies, those experiences were very poor, at best.

So I was surprised how easy it was working with the team I ended up working with, they were very capable, responsible, and I found I could trust them. In fact they seemed to prefer working with those of us in the midwest vs their valley counterparts (there was some tension there for a variety of reasons, some I suspect I wasn't aware of).

I had assumed there would be cultural kinda issues to overcome / learn and understand, but I honestly found the Indian immigrants to the US easier to work with than some European teams I worked with.

I don't know what the dynamic is, maybe just what the article describes years of folks going to work in the US provides everyone with enough background to work well together, but it was certainly a positive experience.

India has been exporting its poverty to the world for decades. From the day laborer in Dubai to the IT worker in America.

In America it has been used to replaced college graduates since corporations now have access to yes men and woman that would gouge out their eyes to keep their job and have a chance to get some kind of permanent status and not have to return to that hell hole they came from.

I could list 100 shops that have folks from India coding that any US Graduate could do but yet isn't given a chance. One such shop is now finding H1B's too expensive, (this is before Trumps 100k charge) and is looking to offshore it all to India and get rid of the H1B's. The look on their faces when they were asked if they would like to work for the company in India was priceless.

In America, Indians are now going to replace Mexicans as the largest immigrant population, crazy when you think about it.
