Countries providing much of the foreign aid are sometimes in denial of poverty in their own country. The UK is projecting 22% in 2024/25 to 23% in 2029/30. Bangladeshi and Pakistani households are 53% and 47%. Families with three or more children 44%.
Agreed - Appalachia in the US has very high poverty rates, and it's definitely not a part of the national conversation on poverty. For obvious reasons.
