Ask HN: Alternatives to Fastmail?

A year or two ago I cut the Gmail cord for all the usual (privacy) reasons. I had seen FastMail mentioned here and went with FM. Unfortunately, the relationship isn't working out.

1) They seem to have a hyper-sensitive spam filter to the point things are refused and never even make it into spam. E.g., A client's newsletter I subscribe to suddenly stopped showing up.

2) Their app on my phone is now randomly logging me out and asking that I log back in. PITA

I need to switch. Soon. Suggestion?

Have you contacted our support team about these issues? Both sound very unusual, and we'd be happy to look into them for you. Drop us a line at support@fastmail.com or you can create a ticket at https://support.fastmail.com/support/

The logging in and out issue might be fixed by uninstalling the app and reinstalling it. I'll tell you it's really the best email service there is, hands down as they say you can create multiple aliases you can create multiple folders and color code them it's really great

ProtonMail. @protonmail.com accounts are free, upgrading your account to a paid plan will let you utilize your own domain(s)

I'm a happy camper with their service

I switched from proton to Fastmail and have been much happier with Fastmail.

Proton seems to do a lot of things ok, but nothing well. I didn’t need a full g suite replacement, just mail. And the mail constantly had small annoying issues that went unfixed.

Fastmail is just mail just works(for me).

While ProtonMail is great, many companies block any incoming emails from protonmail.

One of them is my bank & insurance company. It's very frustrating. Both use the Trend Micro firewall.

Hi! We're sorry to hear that. Can you report to us at: https://proton.me/support/troubleshooting?product=account which exact bank and insurance company these are, so we can see what we can do? Thanks in advance.

Skiff was a nice alternative unfortunately they got acquired by Notion.

Zoho Mail is stable and good option to try

Also very happy with Fastmail and their support.
