Syncthing works on Android, and for between-own-devices cases fits well. Typically, you just have to sync Download (for Android at least it's where 99% of useful files go) across your devices. It's a bit challenging for an average human to setup though. I do however share the frustration: basic operations (not just sharing) with files are stupidly complicated, and became worse with newer Androids.
