Discussed at length couple of weeks ago here

From the text on Braves homepage:

> All the good of ad-blocking, incognito windows, private search, even VPN. All in a single download.

Is that really without user consent? On OSX it requires explicit permission but windows has no such permission facilities.

Nothing burger. The paranoid part of me suspects a Google-sponsored-nothing-burger.

Second time I have seen a post complaining about this on HN. I do not even use Brave but remember the announcement of it being added.

https://brave.com/desktop-vpn/

It's also mentioned multiple times on the home page.

> All the good of ad-blocking, incognito windows, private search, even VPN. All in a single download.

> Yes! Brave Firewall + VPN protects everything you do online, on your entire device, even outside the Brave Browser. One subscription covers up to 5 devices, across Android, iOS, and desktop.

Honestly? Brave's reputation is really in the dump for me, especially since the link hijacking scandal, weird crypto scheme and everything.

Could anybody elaborate to an actual reason as to why you'd use Brave instead of an AdBlock boosted Firefox?

Performance from Chromium.

Most people dont really know about all the Chromium derivatives other than Brave.

This is the primary reason why I still use Brave. There is ungoogled chromium and Thorium, but Brave has some useful privacy features that they don't, it just requires some debloat.

not looking into benchmarks, just from personal feelings for me Firefox feels faster, not sure exactly why I think maybe that's more consistent fps? definitely video acceleration on linux is much better and screen sharing works much better with less memory and CPU

this is funny because those are mostly the same reasons i switched from Firefox to chrome X years ago

Even the infamous Microsoft Edge? /s
