Thinking of my heroes of 20th century computing, most of them had hardware experience, at least to the extent of having thought of systems as involving hardware-software codesign; have the fields diverged so much in the 21st that one can no longer assume coders have the rudiments of EE (at least at the level of, say, nand2tetris?)
