I don’t understand how people watch YouTube with ads. After 2-3 unskippable I don’t even want to watch the video anymore and just do something else.
I hope more creators move to Odyssee or even better, start hosting their own PeerTube instances. That way they wouldn’t depend on almighty Google anymore.
I panicked a little when I realized the same company doing this controls my Gmail. I'd rather have my bank credentials stolen than lose my email address, at least I can get customer service from the bank, this has gotten out of hand. This is partly my fault, but also, we need more anti-trust breakups of these companies.
I've been desperate to give Youtube money for some sort of premium experience to remove advertising but their insistence of bundling that product with Youtube Music and jacking up the price makes it a non-starter. I already have Apple Music, I just can't justify paying $23 dollars every month for my kids and I when when it comes with a Music service we'll never use.
For the love of god Google just offer a standalone Youtube Premium option without the music subscription.
After Youtube inserted more obnoxious ads and the older ad blockers stopped working I simply viewed youtube less a lot less. Personally I don't like video content as its too slow of a medium to deliver information - I cant skim a video like an article. So that's already a strike. If I see ads that wont let me skip them, I close the video. Nothing is that important to waste a minute my time.
I mean you have to watch an ad to watch a film preview - an ad itself. Absurd platform I prefer not to engage with anymore.
There is a big difference between uninterruptable, tracking, surveillance things and basic ads. Show me static, non-personalized banner ads without tracking next to the video.
> but tracking is much more valuable.
Bullshit. Put an actual number on it. If a tracking ad does not cost at least 10 times more than a basic ad, then it is not worth all the cost to society to build surveillance networks.
