For anyone still waiting on Star Citizen, just know there are numerous fantastic alternatives. My personal favorite right now is Everspace 2.

While it doesn't have everything Star Citizen claims to have, it's a fantastic game you can play right now.

Thanks for the recommendation! As a huge Wing Commander fan back in the long long ago, do you have any other recommendations?

There’s not a ton. Everspace 1 is a lot of fun, too, and not in early access.

Freelancer and Freespace 2 will give you more of that sweet Wing Commander action. Star Wars Squadrons is OK.

I found it way too complicated, but maybe try Elite Dangerous.

Will this game be held as example of worst scope creep in a few decades? When they eventually run out of money?

So. It’s not being released for a while then?

Well, they do have a roadmap since several years.

However, the road map does not contain the end of the alpha phase nor the release.

Guess what that means for the direction the development is taking? Exactly.

What is the literal end game here?

String suckers along until he dies a natural death

Star Citizen is a meme, I cannot take anyone seriously that tells me they spent $300 on ships in that game.

I do not have time to play a buggy alpha and hope for a stable release in few years, while opening my wallet.

Now that I think of it. I wonder if they will do NFTs soon? Like wouldn't it be perfect for digital ships, have your own registered NFT of ship(not yet existing) which you could sell and they could get let's say 10% cut...

Wow, this is still being developed?

AFAIK, there will be a never ending development, and new features would be added. The problem here is we don't know when it will exit its alpha/beta stage, and we don't know if it will even get to this position.

Meanwhile, there are a lot of people who are currently still supporting economically the project, a pretty surprising thing to me tbh.

Yep and the early alpha is so riddled with bugs since years that it's very hard to play.
