There definitely is an echo chamber, but not related to the existence of ChatGPT and other AI technologies (even the "menial" laborers I know being relatively aware of it, and my parents and family members frequently talking about it in the context of deepfakes/cheating (at school)/automation/healthcare.

Common reactions to ChatGPT and a lot of the fear are definitely overemphasized in the tech field, but that makes sense.

Wasn't the Samsung Galaxy S5 waterproof despite having a removable battery?

It was less so than later phones, but it absolutely handled its intended use case of browsing reddit in the shower

They support using phone numbers and then switching to TOTP and deleting the phone number.

So how does this avoid giving the number to Google?

It doesn't. I think they were just confirming this:

> I'm not sure if Google allows using phone notifications first (another 2fa method) and then switching to TOTP...

I believe that when Capital One does that they somehow match your name and address to the phone number. A VOIP or prepaid number doesn't seem to work.

Correct. I spoke with their digital team recently and got the low-down. Your full name and the phone number you type in is compared (not sure what entity does this comparison) with the telco billing records that also obviously have your name and number paired. In my case I only have a business cell phone which was problematic to use with my personal Capital One account for step-up auth.

It's disgusting to think about the record sharing, and I doubt it even protects against SIM swapping (or does it?).

You could still setup a new phone plan with a fake ID.

No, it is still true. From https://help.github.com/en/github/working-with-github-pages

Ah, I guess it's because I'm on Github Student.

With India, they did this. They collaborated with RailTel, but I assume that was more logistical then anything else.

As I see it, it's mainly because not that many people live in the City, and this enfranchises employees.

I think that's normal. Walking around La Jolla, a lot of places have no reception (on Sprint).

> on Sprint

Found the problem!

Seen it for other networks as well (TMo, ATT, Verizon).

Yeah, the reason I'm with Verizon and not T-Mobile is the better reception. I haven't noticed problems in that one area until recently.

It looks like it was founded in New York, but in general the process is just making a new American corporation and transferring the French corporation (or its assets) to the American one, and dissolving the French one. Also, getting work visas for your employees and hoping that the bureaucracies don't affect you/deny you/remove your work visas after being accepted.
