I did a draft of our taxes this week and it was almost exactly the same amount filing married vs separately. Where is the big benefit for filing jointly? I guess if you claim dependents?
MFS vs MFJ is a whole different thing from MFJ vs 2x Single.
While there's numerous places where MFJ < 2x Single due to various marriage penalties, and even more numerous places where 2x Single < MFJ due to the shared tax bracket space below the 37% bracket....
there are very very few places where MFS > MFJ. They exist, but you have to be in particular situations like one person having disproportionately more debt and on an income based repayment plan, or similar.
There are of course many situations where 2x Single = MFJ = MFS if it's just two similar income W2 employees with no edge cases going on.
(Once you're married, filing 2x Single is obviously not an option)
If one spouse makes significant income and the other does not, it can help drop the high-earner into a lower bracket overall. Not a huge boon, but every penny counts in our household.
I also didn't expect that, but then I realized that's the work of a teenage boy with a catholic education!
Teenage boys love badass, edgy stuff. And what's badass and edgy in Catholicism? Demons! As for the art style, it is the style that was popular at the time.
In a sense, it is not so different from today's kids drawing scenes inspired from their favorite comic. Of course, the painting here shows incredible talent, he is Michelangelo after all, but that doesn't make him less of a kid.
as a 20th century dude, i expected edgy medieval stuff to be more like knights in armor with 2 swords and dragons.. but maybe that is a distortion from our era.. maybe most of what people talked about was god, good and evil
Just weeks ago someone told me that they had transferred their retirement account into gold. I thought that was quite a bit doomsday-prepper-esque. Now here, just weeks later, I'm thinking it may be a good idea myself...
I really dream of doing it. I gave it a soft-run a few years back when mine was stolen and it was really hard. Not just creature comforts and habits like GPS etc but even things like so much of the modern world assumes you have a phone on you. Things like parking, event tickets, restaurant QR code menus (thankfully this one seems to be actually getting better though.)
It was RAM a couple months ago, and it continues to be RAM. Major RAM manufacturers like SK Hynix are dismantling NAND production to increase RAM manufacturing, which is leading to sharp price increases for solid-state storage.
