I remember participating in a study for a friend of mine where I had to go into a cryochamber and I remember 2 very distinct things

1. How warm -60c felt after walking around in -130c for a few minutes in just shorts and shoes.

2. How much I wanted to run once I got out of the chamber. I was not a runner and I never liked running but I really wanted to run.

I kind of want to do it again to feel that high. Cold showers got a smaller reaction but something similar.

I need to get back into cold showers again but I definitely felt best when I was doing cold showers, it's a cheap trade of a few minutes of unpleasantness for such a mood boost but it's hard convincing yourself to do it first thing in the morning though.

One other thing that can help is if you have a badge, lanyard or work clothes you put them on when you start work and take them off when you finish as you might in the office as normal. Assuming you work in an office that is.

lanyard

Hah! I just realized, I haven't seen my lanyard / "dork badge" in like 4 months. If/when we are asked to return to the office, I'll probably never find the darn thing.

Funny, I've not even used my work backpack in months now. Last I remember I put my badge in one of the pockets. I assume it's still there...

I'm trying not to spend more time in front of the computer since I'm still doing it all day but at home now. I've started cooking, I knew how to cook basic things and basically feed myself but I'm following a lot of Kenji Lopez-Alt on youtube and it's really been motivating me to try something different that might take a little more skill or time that I wouldn't have tried before. https://www.youtube.com/user/kenjialt

Alternatively I'm having a lot of fun with Nats What I Reckon videos too. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l9sjrjr06K4

Eyeing up getting handier with Golang and Python later on though since our restrictions continue for a month or 2 longer depending on the numbers.

If you're trying new things, I'd recommend making gumbo. Really tasty, teaches you how to make a good dark roux, and otherwise is relatively easy. Isaac Toups has good videos out there on how to.

I've looked at doing something involving a roux but I'm always somewhat nervous of burning the shit out of it which I really shouldn't be.

I remember seeing Isaac on Binging with Babish once, I'll definitely check him out. Thanks!

I believe the rule is don't buy an electric car if you already have a car but if you're buying a new car an electric car over its lifetime will be better than getting a combustion car

So a technique I've found useful to solve this issue aside from hanging out with someone visiting is to dedicate 1 day to doing nothing but picking a place that you're very familiar with and intentionally thinking about whether you've been down that street or the next one, looking at places that I wouldn't usually look like at the corners of the roof of buildings and then just taking a moment to sit down and watch. This has worked for me in each of the cities I've ever become too familiar with. You just tend to relax and get to where you want to go, there's no nervous energy of not knowing where you are or where you're going. Nowadays I tebd to just pop on my headphones and go to where I need and go back home again and not take in a thing unless I have a bit of a "reset"
