Use it and like it. If using aws is a requirement but you don’t want to get bogged down with their user experience it’s worth it IMO.
Have run into some aws quirks leaking out of their abstraction. But personally that has only made me say “man if they couldn’t figure out how to make this clean, I would have been toast dealing with it on my own”
FWIW I interned at a US nuclear plant. They intentionally don't upgrade to digital systems for fear of being hacked, everything in the plant was analog when I was there 6 years ago.
Good for them!
These vary from simple “smart” light switches, to machinery used in industrial plants
This line makes me cringe. Current IT infrastructure are just NOT secure. Until the major IT tech companies and nation state can prove otherwise, important machineries, especially nuclear ought to be kept off internet and digital system.
“Older readers may long for the good old days when companies that were actual monopolies would pretend to love their customers. Now we all work for companies that don't admit to being monopolies and actually hate their customers. Boy, how times have changed!”
Not always before, but always eventually and usually once I’m done with “exploration”. Testing done right should be a time saver in the long run! I think many people are turned off by testing and especially unit testing because it ends up being difficult and maintenance is more of a pain than it’s worth. There are many good strategies to make it easier that in my experience have yet to be well adopted:
