I checked out the Pitkin County Assessors site, big notice to all residents IN RED A 80% raise in property taxes for 2025. I looked up the Thompson house-its listed under the Owl Farm Trust with her name- roughly from $3,400.00 per year to $35,000. But they have 42 acres 10 minutes from Aspen....so its not going to be cheap! But I don't know anything...maybe he was miserable. He was working on the Lisl Auman case helping her get an appeal, why would he just kill himself, she got her appeal in 2005. He would have seen it happen but he off himself while his grandson at the house???? Now property taxes go up? oki.....
It does make sense with a wider context. In short, he was miserable, and he always planned to go out on his own terms when he felt he'd reached the end of the path (I imagine influenced by seeing his father die painfully through disease as a young man). He documented both well. Having his family in the house at the time, and to be on the phone to his wife, was likely to let them know the nature of it, a kind of act of transparency and trust. It makes sense in the context of his beliefs and nature. Also, he would have always been in the middle of something, work wise.
But, we are forgetting the unbanked, underbanked, the day laborers and migrant farm workers paid cash, the LexisNexis tracking leading to unbanked.
Check cashing places are slimming, buts that's more due to entry level jobs offering prepaid debit cards as payment of salary. Yum Brands I believe does this. But of course, prepaid debit cards cant be used everywhere. (Hotels, deposits, some gas pumps, etc)
honestly, this is all to plunder the solar system further. Mining asteroids, etc. Of course the R&D is tax payer publicly funded and the future profits privatized. This is the way it has always been.
I guess I just don't see the point. We're not leaving earth, no one wants to life in orbital stations or habitats - nonobstant all the issues with making that happen, so why plunder the solar system? There is more matter to plunder on earth than we would need to cover the whole globe with people, what's the point of trying get our great-great-great-great-grandkids to mine asteroids? Even more questionable if it makes our own and the life of the people coming next to be measurably worse

If only there was more textual information as a supplement to the headline. I imagine such a supplement (which I'm going to call "article" since it's a fun word) would provide details about the headline. In this case, such an article would maybe explain why that was happening... i don't know, say maybe investors not approving of his salary the same anymore. I imagine the article might go into whether that's salary or total comp, and maybe a breakdown of what that total comp means. Bonus, what I imagine to be a decent article they would even mention restructuring of incentives if that was involved.
