This is only an issue when you need to migrate services. I can't get into details but much of this isn't a problem anymore.

Yes votes were 144 D and 213 R in the house with unanimous yes (only one no) in the Senate. Right after 9/11 people were fine giving up with their rights pretty much across the spectrum. Granted Republicans more than Democrats. I think since then it has just been the status quo for every president since Bush. I hate it but it has been engrained at this point IMO.

This all reminds me of Makeshift Patriot by Sage Francis.

Don't read Swift's A Modest Proposal then.

I agree that satire and parody have a valuable place in discourse.

But I believe there are some subject matters including sexual assault and more specifically pedophilia that are pretty much never in good taste or useful to parody. Apparently this position is somewhat outspoken here.

Swift's Modest Proposal mentions eating babies which is very obviously an extreme behavior that is not tolerated by anyone anywhere, which is a distinct contrast to sexual assault which has victims in the millions if not billions.

Also just to note that the comment I replied to is now dead and flagged, so I guess I'm not the only one with these opinions.

Stallman appreciates you saying so. :)

Having a difficult time finding technical details in the security risk assessment. If anyone has a link with details?

What do you mean? The movie storyline takes place in 44 at the Battle of Normandy.

I must've misread. I thought you said that it comes from the movie rather than comes up in the movie.

Same. I find myself much more productive. I do like coming in every once in awhile for the rapport and cultivating working relationships face to face though.

Yep, 2-4x onsites together a year to develop human relationships, and otherwise 100% remote, is by far the most effective team arrangement IME. It is especially the most accessible format for people who do not necessarily perform their best work within the typical office hours (9-5, +/-1), who do not want to live in your metro area, or who are distracted by disturbances in their surroundings - or just aren’t hardcore extroverts.

Or simply put: if you truly want the best, most focused, highly performing team, an office requirement shrinks your talent pool tremendously for extremely little gain. Do quarterly meetups somewhere and move on, IMO.

Quarterly is a lot, depending on travel distance and whether weekends are needed for travel, for folks with families.

Agree, 4x is doable only if you have no kids. Otherwise you not only create a lot of stress for the other parent but you also lose valuable time with your family, which you won’t recover as kids grow up. I feel like 2x is reasonable.

I don't have kids and I'm still more on team 2x/yr than 4x/yr by a large margin, but I'll still take 4x/yr for ~3 days each over in-office daily (or even twice a week). Mentioned it mostly as a compromise option I could accept (and IIRC that compromise is what 37signals did and documented in the Remote book which I haven't read in quite some time).

I don't think they are necessarily saying that. The data driven aspect is to connect users actually wanting or interested in something. The measure of this is the conversion rate, which is where the user actually clicks on the ad. You can also connect these with purchases from the ad buyer. The data driven piece is all the variables involved in developing functions that maximize this. At that point it is basically data science.

Get off HN and back to work you.

As a US citizen I just want affordable healthcare, housing, and a system that supports families. I think for the younger generation where this isn't attainable it causes a lot of unhappiness and leads to greater stressors. Also we are at a big low with faith in our political system across the pillars of government. I think for most of us we don't want it all, we just want our basic needs met without worrying about losing then tomorrow.
