I like the look of this. It looks like mate, which I presently use. I wonder what the difference is

Well, FLTK instead of GTK is a big one. Also, EDE more closely mimics the Win98 Explorer rather than GNOME. EDE is also lighter weight.

But it's the same desktop, menus, windows, icons thing with nothing fancy tacked on pretty much. Right?

Not quite. The crystal icon set is not, to my knowledge, the default in any GNOME version though it was in some KDE3 releases. The menus and window design of EDE are very Win98, while those of GNOME are slightly different depending upon the Metacity theme in use. EDE has a few other tweaks and add-ons, but it lacks the MATE/GNOME2 plugin ecosystem.

What if my humanoid does cartwheels, is that too wheel?

It's like we're wired to trust what we're told over what we see.

The one doing the telling is the confident man on tv and the people around us.

What's funny is, 9 out of 10 people are totally credulous. They'll swallow any foolish thing as long as a authority says it. That last guy is a skeptic. BUT if everybody around him AND the authority are saying the thing, then he believes it. Because that's reasonable, right?

I think it is worth breaking into 2 situations.

The clear enemy authority figure. I.e. cop wants you to talk. Dont talk.

But then there is the if you do A you might die if you do B you also might die you have no probabilities, just your instinct plus what you are being told to do. And you have 10 seconds to decide.

It's like that story "Pontypool" except for bullshit. The bullshit has congealed into living forms, breeding and evolving.

(Ya, bullshit is the precise term here. Zero consciousness of truth or falsehood. Just contextually fitting)

I perceive a river of sights, sounds, smells, vibes, thoughts and emotions. And that's just a narrow slice. There's also a whole vast continent of nameless stuff too.

Hallucinogens change my perspective of that river. Stuff I didn't notice I start noticing. My careful sample of the river, cultivated over a lifetime, gets jiggled and smeared all over and much that was invisible becomes visible.

That said, I prefer shikantaza meditation.

What if they censor you for a good reason. Is it ok then?

I installed Debian (with Mate desktop) for 3 different elderly ladies.

All 3 give it a solid thumbs up. "It never crashes", "It's so easy", "It's fast", "None of that Windows bs".

Milarepa (famous Indian saint) lived on nettle soup for a while (while living in a cave and such). Turned him green. Neighbors were freaked out.

It's like the "Truth Mines" from Greg Egan's "Diaspora".
