This page sucked 100% of my CPU in mear seconds… I'm lucky I could close the tab fast enough.

Same here. It's complete garbage with on Firefox despite using an overpowered Macbook Pro.

I have one too! The 720p is just not enough, I wish I could at least have a 1080p :(

It's possible to upgrade the panel - mine has a 1080p IPS.

Does it involve the LDVS board that you solder to the main board? I'm looking for a good source and one that doesn't cause problems with the setting for brightness.

Yes, got mine a few years back from taobao (I no longer remember specific details). IIRC the brightness control Just Worked however the chip in charge of that seems to have failed at some point and now I'm stuck at 100% brightness (I no longer daily-drive this thinkpad so I haven't bothered fixing it properly). Unsure if it's down to a design fault with the mod board or I just got unlucky.

I rarely read the commit messages. It's often faster to just read the code than an obscure description, I'd rather have a small sentence that summarizes what the diff is doing than a technical paper explaining every change in the commit. I don't read pass the title.

Sure, but in bigger projects there's going to be thousands of commits and hundreds of thousands of lines in a diff; reading code becomes infeasible then.

But it's the only way if there's no commit message discipline, and even if there is it'll be difficult.

Most of the time that's fine, but then you'll find a bit of code that's broken and the change that added it makes no sense and the commit message is empty. Kind of infuriating.

This made me think about Crocker's Rules http://sl4.org/crocker.html

Last time someone try to interview me with a pen and paper, I walk the door laughing... It shows how little they know about the job, major red flag!

You create a google chrome extension to escape Google?

I understand the purpose, but your browser of choice doesn't fit the purpose, it's just a bit sad :(

Yep, this is ironic to say the least. I actually wanted to try it but the first step of escaping Google is switching to Firefox... so I couldn't install it.

They built an extension to "escape Google's [recommendation] algorithm". They're clearly not talking here about privacy, they're talking about managing their own attention. Their implementation does fit their purpose.

Yes, I know, it just doesn't feel right to me, that's all

Happy to see some AMD laptop but please:

- 14" diagonal FHD LED UWWA for HD Webcam (1920x1080) (1000 Nits)⁹

FHD is dead to me, I want pixels please. It's SO hard to find a laptop with a good 2k/4k screen. As a dev I want a lot of screen space.

- 720p HD camera

Seriously ?

I know it's a $1,099, but if your target is developers, they want better spec, the price is not really the issue. If I spend my life on a laptop, it better be a really good one.

A modestly good 720p camera wpuld beat the pants off 98% of 1080p cameras.

I have some various logitech webcams. They do... ok 1080p. But it's still fuzzy & blurry. Best camera in the work zoom but still seems comedic that it's called 1080p given how smeared & unsharp things are. Takes more effort but I can also plug-in/set-up & pull 1080p (or 4k30) off a fancier zcam e1 + elgato hdmi adapter. Those pixels all count, they really each are carrying their own weight. In my estimation very few cameras really carry 720p weight.

A good 720p camera, especially one that can adapt to various lighting situations, would be fantastic. Alas, we have very very few reviewers out there who can give us a decent review on webcams. We'ee fated to suffer shit equipmemt with only superficial & often detrimemtal competition ("only 720p?!") when we lack methodical & scientific reviews. To progress requires some real figures of merit, & pixel count often hurts more than helps explain.

There's ~6 laptops with >800nit brightness displays. Great to see such a strong showing here at a very reasonable price. Yes I could use more pixels but I can also run font size 8 or 9 terminals just fine & it wont affect me. Honestly for a vast amount of the time I'll be plugged in anyways.

Don know about specific camera for this, but most built-in webcams horribly underperform, Macbooks included.

I m happy to see that AMD Ryzen is supported !

But this laptop is missing:

- a second USB-C. - You don't need that HDMI if you have enough USB-C, since you can turn them into what ever port you need. - Why the fuck do we still have USB-2 port ? - We really need to have option for the screen, 1080p is not enough for a lot of people. I like to have as much screen pixel has possible (because I can display more line of code).

You seem to be wanting a stationary desktop computer, not a portable laptop used for many different situations.

HDMI is great when you're doing presentations all over the place, no need to keep track of dongles, most places I present at uses HDMI.

USB-A is useful for tons of accessories, personally I only have a one (out of five in total) using USB-C, and most USB sticks I come across when consulting are in fact USB-A.

If you're out after as much screen estate as possible, external monitors are for you. A 14-inch laptop are for people on the go.

Then you only have an HDMI dongle. Until you present at one that use display port, someone can give you a display port dongle.

I know that, I m not against it at all. Just, can we USB-2 retire now ?

I code on the go and I don't want to be on a small resolution laptop when I m not at home.

You should never buy a domain like that. This just show that it work and make the domain parking business profitable. Stop buying those domain and it will kill that awful business...

Most care more about optimizing their own outcomes than spiting domain squatters.

Did you replace the screen somehow ? I have a X220, replaced a lot of stuff, but I barely use it today because the 1366x768 screen is not enough anymore... At least a 1080p display is the bare minimum today.

You can get a PEPE board and upgrade to a 1080p display. It's not super easy to solder on or source the screen though.

I use a dock to add a secondary display that goes directly above the laptop screen.
