Hey Hackernews

I’ve been into budgeting for a long time and, like many of you, I’ve tried all the big apps — YNAB, EveryDollar, Mint, etc. They’re solid… but none of them worked quite the way I needed. So I built my own: TheZeroBasedBudget.

It’s a zero-based budgeting tool — similar in concept to other tools on the market — but I’ve made some improvements that I think people will actually appreciate:

Completely independent — no ties to Dave Ramsey or any financial brand

$9.99/month — cheaper than most competitors

Structured but flexible — built on solid budgeting principles, without being overly rigid

Copy budgets from any month or year — not the previous month

Manual transaction tracking by design — because most bank-connected apps aren’t real-time anyway, and this keeps you engaged

No app required — the website is fully mobile-optimized, so it works great right from your browser

Refined UI/UX — built with clarity, simplicity, and real-world usability in mind

Personalized support — I’m actively helping users get started and build their first budget
This was originally a personal project to help me take control of my finances — but I really think it can help others too.

If you’re trying to get better with money, I’d love for you to check it out. And if you want help getting started, I’ll personally help you build your first budget — no strings attached.

Thanks for reading — open to any feedback, ideas, or critiques!
